Description

Colt Navy Revolver probably manufactured in 1859 or 1860, and either presented to or purchased by Langhorne while serving as Captain off the Rifle Greys, a prewar Lynchburg militia unit which became Company A, 11th Virginia Infantry at the outset of the Civil War.

Langhorne was born 27 March 1823 in Cumberland County, Virginia. Served as Captain of Co.. A, 11th Virginia Infantry 22 April 1861, Major of the 11th Virgina 21 August 1861, Lt. Colonel 7 May 1862, Colonel 24 September, 1864. Seriously wounded at the battle of Seven Pines in 1862. Spent time in various reserve commands at and near Lynchburg. Retired 20 December 1864. Paroled at Lynchburg 15 April 1865. Ran insurance and tobacco businesses in Lynchburg until his death on 27 March 1908.
