Excuse paper it is all we have - FCH

Sandusky Friday
                                                                                                                     March 29th 1861

 Dear Risque,

Your letter of the 27th inst. is just to hand, we all rejoiced to hear that dear Pa is up again, we love to see you both soon. I write now to ask you and Pa to speak a good word for me with your friends in Charleston, in regard to my application for a Paymastership. I have written to Bocock but he such a slow coach I don’t expect much from him, I will however do all I can as I should like very much to have the appointment. I have written to Jeff Davis, but don’t know that he got my letter. Tell Pa not to resign for the present to wait for Virginia, she I hope will go out down, if he does resign and he doesn’t want the appointment to resign in my favor, I will go to Key West or any where else. I believe I could get a Pay mastership in the U.S.A. by Pa resigning and then be transferred to the C.S.A.  We are all well, Ma and Ada are sitting by the former sewing and the latter reading both send you and Pa much love Ada will write Pa tomorrow. Mr. Kinckle intends leaving us in the fall he is going to Minnesota we all regret it very much.

We are making nothing now, oats are selling at 75 cents I don’t intend sending any thing until prices are better, Alex McDonald has been appointed Post Master. Ask Pa if he can’t write a letter for me to Col Walker or some of his army friends who have influence with Jeff Davis. Mart Mormon is now in Montgomery, and K Otey too I believe, if I could come home I would be there too as there is nothing like going after these things yourself. I rode in to church this morning (Good Friday) and heard a fine sermon from Mr. K. If you get an appointment which I hope you will, tell Pa I will attend to his duties and let him stay at home a secession flag is to be raised at Brookeville in the morning I am going down. Ma and Ada send you much love, mine also to Pa. Good night God bless you both-- Off Your Bro F.C. Hutter.

 Over

                                  Saturday morning

Dear Risque,

Today Ada and I are going in to see Nannie & Jack so this letter must suffice for a weekly letter a poor apology I know. Ada will write to Pa on Wednesday, we had a fine shower last night and every thing is growing finely, the garden yard looks very sweet. I do hope you and Pa will soon be at home. We are all well and will go to church tomorrow. Our best love to dear Pa, I must now get ready to start.                                                                                                              Your Attached Brother

                                                F.C. Hutter
