Description

Half-plate ambrotype of Reverend Hugh Roy Scott, of the Scott families of Lynchburg and Amherst, Virginia.

Scott was a Protestant Episcopal missionary who served in Africa. The book Day Dawn in Africa, Or, Progress of the Protestant Episcopal Mission at Cape Palmas, West Africa (1858) by his wife, Anna Miller Scott, describes his missionary work.

Inside the photograph case is written by Scott's wife:
