Accounting sheet outlining government funds George Christian Hutter was responsible for March-April 1861 while paymaster for the US Army in Charleston, S.C. Hutter resigned his commission in April 1861 and returned to his home "Sandusky" in Lynchburg, Va.
Notations added by Hutter and a government official in 1867 regarding reconciliation of government money Hutter was responsible for at the time he left the US Army.
Hutter regularly delivered the payrolls to the US army garrison stationed at Fort Sumter up until the Confederate bombardment of the fort. A fact mentions in Hutter's obituary.
